Recording Live Sound
For the uninitiated, Live Sound refers to any situation where a presentation is being made in front of a live audience. Typically a Public Address System (a.k.a. PA System or Sound System) is involved. The presentation often takes the form of a lecture, speech, or sermon.
Live Sound is distinguished from other recording scenarios for two main reasons. First, Live Sound recordings are often made for distribution to a wider audience, through mediums such as MP3's on the Internet or Radio Broadcasting. Thus, high sound quality is usually desired. Secondly, Live Sound is inherently unscripted. Any gaffes, foibles, and faux pas on the part of the presenter are faithfully recorded and usually left intact in the final edited version.
